Role of the attendance officer Q&As

Q. We’ve just appointed a new school-based attendance officer. Is there a job description for what we should expect them to do?

A. Many schools are now appointing people as part of their non-teaching staff to oversee the whole area of attendance and absence, especially as most local authorities have drastically reduced the level of support that they provide. This is only right and seems to work well where the role is taken seriously and properly resourced.
